ImpactCareers

Overview

Skills: Front End (React), TailwindCSS, Flask, Docker, Render

ImpactCareers is a job board site specializing in disaster relief, emergency response, and humanitarian career opportunities. I combined my skills in design and React front-end development to create an easy to use experience for filtering and viewing jobs. Data for this project is supplied by the ReliefWeb API, which is a humanitarian information service provided by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Home Page

The initial landing and home page for impactcareers focuses on minimalism, balance, and emotional connection with a photo of first responders. Red is color typically associated with emergency management. At least in United States, many emergency vehicles like ambulances are a bright and deep red. While red is typically associated with “destructive” actions in UI, I felt it was appropriate to stray from that standard due to it’s effective branding.

Filters and Card Design

The visual display of job opportunities display many challenges. Questions that may come up when thinking about card design may be:

  • What is most important to a user? (e.g., location, organization, job type)

  • Is a summary or description of the role necessary?
